Currently in the window is a cape by Joy. Joy has been a keen sewer for a while. She wanted to perfect matching stripes and checks at seams and learn how to add a lining. She made an excellent job of both with this beautiful cape!
The fabric was bought at a Knitting & Stitching show and the pattern is New Look 6007.
When Joy came to her class last week and saw her cape in the window, her response was; “You’ve made my day.” Well Joy, you made my day with your persistence and attention to detail in getting this cape right.
Without wanting to sound smug or gloating – I do love my job.
Pesky sunshine made it impossible to get a good photo of Sonia’s lovely frock, so here’s one I took earlier with Sonia in the frock!
Sonia began “secret” sewing classes as a beginner. She started with some cushions with initials and pompoms for her daughters, then made this frock for herself. It’s the first thing she’s made from a pattern.
Fabric: Ditto, 21 Kensington Gardens, Brighton
Pattern: info coming soon!
A lovely spring dress is the new student in the window from Ela.
Ela started classes last September to “unlearn” some bad habits and learn how to use patterns. She’s since made a skirt, a cardi, 2 jersey dresses and this lovely spring frock from patterns!
Couldn’t resist including another shot with the lovely blue of Ela’s dress set off by the new grey shop front! Also, this may be the last photo of the shop front without any signage……
Fabric: from Ela’s fabric hoard…..!
Pattern: Newlook 6023
I’m having a rotating display of student work in the window of MIY Workshop. The best advert for my classes is the work that my students produce and it’s a nice way for them to feel proud of their creations and appreciate the skills they’ve learnt.
Here’s my first “student in the window”; Lisa.
Lisa had never used a sewing machine when she started classes last September. After 4 classes she’d made this skirt. Next came this top and she’s just finished a dress. She’s addicted!
