Have you seen MIY Workshop’s latest window display? If you haven’t been able to, here it is, invaded by giants……
As you can imagine me and Lauren had BIG FUN making this one! As ever BIG THANKS to Lauren Courtney for her fantastic prop making skills.
Looks like I’ll be having a pin cushion shaped pouffe when we replace this window and I’m still wondering what I’ll do with that t-shirt…..any ideas?!
Last Thursday we did the 2nd photoshoot for my sewing book. Here’s a little peep behind the scenes of what was a really busy day. It’s amazing what you can do in a day with a great team!
Gypsydog did a bit of photobombing again this time, but we didn’t catch her in our snapshots!
My amazing team consists of photographer Julian Ward and stylist Lauren Courtney. They seem to sprinkle a bit of magic onto whatever they’re working with, it’s great!
In case you missed it, here’s behind the scenes of the first photoshoot.

Monday was the first photoshoot for my sewing book. It was soooo much fun.
Julian Ward (no relation!) is the photographer and he is fantastic to work with. He totally got what we were trying to do and made sure we got the shots we needed and more.
My good friend Lauren Courtney was styling the photos. She has this amazing ability to arrange things and make them look fabulous. You might remember her from her fantastic work on the MIY Workshop Christmas window which won us that prize…!
Snapshots by me and Lauren.

On Tuesday evening myself, Lauren and Emma (the creative wonders who helped me to bring the MIY Workshop Christmas window out of my head and into reality) went to the Brighton & Hove City Council awards evening for the “Dressed for Success” competition. This was a competition to find the best Christmas window display from Brighton and Hove’s many wonderful independent shops. You can see more about how our window was created in my previous blog post: https://miyworkshop.co.uk/2013/12/06/miy-workshop-is-dressed-for-success-this-christmas/
There were some brilliant entries which prove just what a creative and inspirational place Brighton and Hove is both to have a business and to come shopping. You can see a fantastic collage of images of all the shop windows on the council’s Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152056743910071.1073741831.54869840070&type=1
After getting a few “honourable mentions” where MIY Workshop was pipped to the post in a few categories, the tension was ramped up a bit for the final overall prize to be announced. Three windows were shortlisted and my heart started racing when MIY Workshop popped up on the screen as one of them, then it was announced that we were the winners!!! Wow, chuffed to bits.
Here we are basking in our glory!
And here’s the trophy in pride of place in the MIY Workshop window…..
I’ve never won an actual trophy before! I have to admit – it’s a rather nice feeling!
And here’s the gorgeous window display that did it for us, in case you’ve already forgotten what it looked like!
For frugal January, I’ve gone minimal and been invaded……
