MIY Workshop in the Local Press

dressedforsuccess-argus-webIn the Brighton Argus on Monday 27th January on page 33.  Thankfully spotted by one of my students, giving me just enough time at 8.45pm to run around the local shops buying their last few copies and be asked by one local shopkeeper if I was in the paper!  Was I that obvious?!

dressedforsuccess-NLR-webAnd in the February issue of the North Laine Runner – the local community magazine for the area of Brighton where MIY Workshop is located.  I really like this magazine, unlike many such publications I’ve looked at in Brighton it’s not back-to-back adverts and there’s always something interesting to read in there.

This month they’ve even let me write something!……

MIY Workshop wins “Dressed for Success 2013”!!!

On Tuesday evening myself, Lauren and Emma (the creative wonders who helped me to bring the MIY Workshop Christmas window out of my head and into reality) went to the Brighton & Hove City Council awards evening for the “Dressed for Success” competition.  This was a competition to find the best Christmas window display from Brighton and Hove’s many wonderful independent shops.  You can see more about how our window was created in my previous blog post: https://miyworkshop.co.uk/2013/12/06/miy-workshop-is-dressed-for-success-this-christmas/

There were some brilliant entries which prove just what a creative and inspirational place Brighton and Hove is both to have a business and to come shopping.  You can see a fantastic collage of images of all the shop windows on the council’s Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152056743910071.1073741831.54869840070&type=1

After getting a few “honourable mentions” where MIY Workshop was pipped to the post in a few categories, the tension was ramped up a bit for the final overall prize to be announced.  Three windows were shortlisted and my heart started racing when MIY Workshop popped up on the screen as one of them, then it was announced that we were the winners!!!  Wow, chuffed to bits.

And here’s the trophy in pride of place in the MIY Workshop window…..

I’ve never won an actual trophy before!  I have to admit – it’s a rather nice feeling!

And here’s the gorgeous window display that did it for us, in case you’ve already forgotten what it looked like!

MIY Workshop is Dressed for Success this Christmas

MIY Workshop Christmas Window

MIY Workshop dressed for success brighton

I am very happy that MIY Workshop’s Christmas window display is part of this year’s “Dressed for Success” competition being run by Brighton & Hove City Council.

Winners will be chosen in 8 different categories, 5 of which are open for public voting from Saturday 7th December (Small Business Saturday) until Friday 20th December.  You can vote on the council’s Facebook page here and via their online voting form here.

If you’re interested in the creative process behind the scenes that went into making the window display, I made a little stop-motion film………

Needless to say this window wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my fabulously creative friend Lauren Courtney (you can see more of Lauren’s creative fairy dust here and here) and one of my pattern cutting students, Emma Miles (who has her own crafty blog here).  Thank you ladies for busy fingers, creative brains and top quality nattering!
