Sunday 21st September – Sewing with Knits

Sewing with stretchy jersey fabrics is easier than you might think.   At this workshop I’ll show you the best ways to cut and sew knitted fabrics.  I’ll provide you with a choice of patterns specifically designed for jersey fabrics for you to whip up something to wear by the end of the day. All you need to bring is some stretch knit fabric of your choice and matching thread.  Suitable for beginners and those with a bit of sewing experience.

Saturday 27th September – Styling & Sewing with Wendy Ward and Clary Fisher

Wardrobe full of clothes you never wear?  Getting dressed a hassle instead of a pleasure?  Starting to hate clothes shopping?  Bring those annoying, unworn clothes and learn how to turn them into fresh, flattering garments that will become the new go-to pieces in your wardrobe.  You will learn: which shapes best suit your body / what styles you enjoy wearing / how to choose colours that flatter you / ways to alter garments to fit and flatter you.  You should be happy using a sewing machine and have a bit of sewing experience to do this workshop, it’s not for absolute beginners.

Sunday 19th October – Pattern Cutting for Dresses 1 – the Basics

Tired of buying dresses that don’t fit properly?  Try this one day intensive workshop to have a go at pattern cutting and draft the perfectly fitting dress block. At this workshop you will draft a basic dress block and pattern and make a toile (sample).   This workshop is only suitable for people who have made clothes from patterns and are confident using a sewing machine.  It is NOT suitable for those who have never done any pattern cutting.

Sunday 2nd November – How to Use Your Sewing Machine for Dressmaking

Got a sewing machine gathering dust in a cupboard and no idea how to use it?! Bring it along to this workshop. The day is aimed at beginners to find your way around a sewing machine including; different stitches, changing the tension, the different settings, cleaning, changing needles, changing feet, threads, using different fabrics and of course threading and sewing!  Suitable for absolute beginners!

Sunday 30th November – **NEW WORKSHOP!!**  The Beginner’s Guide to Dressmaking

Come and make a garment from Wendy’s new sewing book. You will be taken step-by-step through using one of the 6 patterns from “The Beginner’s Guilde to Dressmaking” and should have a new t-shirt, skirt, dress, trousers or jacket to take home at the end of the day! Just bring fabric and thread, price includes a copy of the book to take home.  Suitable for beginners and those with a bit of sewing experience.

Sunday 14th December – Pattern Cutting for Dresses 2 – Sleeves & Style Adaptations

Aimed at students who have previously drafted a basic dress block. We will be drafting a sleeve for the dress and I’ll show you the best way to set in a sleeve, we’ll look at the basics of dart manipulation and some basic style adaptations including: princess line, collars and some sleeve adaptations. You will need to bring your original dress block with you in order to draft the sleeve!  This workshop is only suitable for people who have made clothes from patterns and are confident using a sewing machine. It is NOT suitable for those who have never done any pattern cutting or dressmaking.

    • Hi Lynn, I do offer C&G Pattern Cutting courses but all the current ones are fully booked. I will be doing more in the Autumn but don’t have dates confirmed yet.
