ABOUT

This is me – Wendy Ward.

I opened MIY Workshop in January 2012 after teaching my own independent sewing classes for adults for over a year.  I have been teaching dressmaking, pattern cutting and textiles at various colleges and adult education centres throughout Brighton since 2007.  I have a degree in Fashion Design, an MA in Design and am a fully qualified, registered and CRB cleared teacher.  I am a member of the Institute for Learning which is the professional body for teachers, tutors, trainers and student teachers in the further education and skills sector.

In April 2011 I was granted membership of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.

At MIY Workshop you can make, do, create, sew, alter, repair and customise. The workshop is fully equipped with Janome sewing machines, Juki overlocker, 2.4m long cutting table, pressing equipment and specialist tools.Classes are open to all levels of sewing ability and in group classes there will only be a maximum of 5 people per class. You are free to work on whatever you want at the weekly classes, I don’t have all students making the same thing and you can join us and start a block of classes or try a single class whenever suits you – there are no fixed start dates, weekly classes are ongoing.

After working as a designer in the fashion industry for 7 years I now have my own label for which I design and make a range of clothing and accessories.

Oh, and this is Gypsydog, my occasional workshop assistant….
